Dr Elizabeth Young
I am a chaplain practicing within an existential frame which combines:
- spiritual and pastoral care
- compassionate listening
- ministerial presence
- humanistic emotional support
- bespoke rituals and ceremonies marking beginnings, milestones and endings
My primary role is to be alongside people as they explore their spiritual and existential challenges, often at times of change, grief, illness and loss. I am an accredited member of the Non-Religious Pastoral Support Network and a qualified celebrant. I have wide experience in caring roles that started with bedside nursing and transitioned into an academia career. My doctoral research explored the role of friendship when women are dying and more recent strategic work investigated spiritual care in hospices. I am a practicing hospital chaplain and the course leader for the postgraduate programme Pastoral Care: Existential and Humanist Practice at NSPC.
