Dr Sara Louise Smith
Counselling Psychologist | Existential and Integrative Psychotherapist
Sara is a qualified Counselling Psychologist and Doctor in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy (DCPsych), with a strong foundation in existential therapy and a holistic awareness of the relationship between mind, body, meaning and lived experience.
Sara's research and interests explore the relationship between sexuality and spirituality from an existential and phenomenological perspective. Her work reflects a deep interest in the ways people make sense of intimacy, sexuality, embodiment, identity, freedom, choice and meaning, particularly in the areas of life that can feel difficult to name or fully understand.
In her practice, Sara works with individuals and couples, supporting people through:
Relationship difficulties and communication patterns
Questions around identity, self-worth and direction
Sexuality, intimacy and embodied experience
Spirituality, meaning and existential concerns
Anxiety, Life transitions, loss and personal change
Trauma, shame and emotionally complex experiences
Sara has worked with individuals and couples from a wide range of backgrounds. She sees therapy as a space where people can slow down, understand themselves more honestly and from new perspectives, while feeling supported , respected and seen.
Sara places value on the role of the body, patters, uncertainty and silence in the therapy room. Her work is also informed by prior experience in holistic and body-based practices, including somatic awareness and breath-led work.
Alongside her clinical work, Sara teaches at the NSPC and has experience in group facilitation and workshop delivery.
